Exploring ideas to fundraise for charities in Singapore? Look no further. In SDSC’s brand new series, In the Spotlight, we feature and speak to individuals, brands and organisations who have chosen to partner SDSC and to raise funds for disability sports in Singapore.

Every effort counts and helps to empower persons with disabilities to pursue sports and lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

You can give to SDSC online: https://www.giving.sg/singapore-disability-sports-council. More information on fundraising is available here.

Contact the team at corpcomm@sdsc.org.sg to discuss ideas. Thank you.

Over the course of the school holidays, SDSC was proud to be one of two beneficiaries of a fundraising campaign by a young man, Joash Nga, a Secondary 1 student at Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road).

About the Fundraiser (Extracted from Give.asia page):

My name is Joash and I’m a Secondary 1 student at Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road). I was born with cerebral palsy which affects my mobility, I move around in a wheelchair. This school holidays I’m suiting up to go on the ROBO-Walk Programme at Tan Tock Seng Hospital CART for a second time. This is a physiotherapy programme that uses the Lokomat system to help me train my gait and helps me make my leg muscles stronger. It’s just like someone running on a treadmill, except I’ll have some robotic help. I’m aiming to raise at least $4000 by walking at least 10km over the span of the programme for two charities.

The two charities are the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) and the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC).

I chose CPAS because I want to help other children with disabilities like me. Your donations will enable CPAS to help provide equipment and necessities to children with cerebral palsy.

I chose SDSC because I want to give back to the para-athlete community. I met Toh Wei Soong, a fellow ACSian, when I was in Primary 1. He is one of the para-athletes representing Singapore in swimming and he inspired me to participate in sports and win my own medals. Through the organization of local competitions, SDSC provides opportunities for disabled kids to participate in organized sporting activities. Your donations will support SDSC in providing funds for our para-athletes and for other local sporting programmes for disabled people.

Thank you for your support and donations. Please note you can pick to donate to one or both charities. Any amount goes a long way in making a difference for people with disabilities.

An Amazing Achievement

At the conclusion of the programme on 21 December, Joash completed his last session on the Lokomat and has clocked a total of 33,264 steps and covered a distance of 16.366km. Well done Joash!

“I would like to thank everyone for their generosity in supporting me in this fund raising campaign for Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) and Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC). I did not think that so much support would be given. I hope more people will be encouraged to help others who have disabilities in any way possible,” said Joash.
