Team Singapore para swimmers show form on first day of opening season competition

Yip Pin Xiu and Soon siblings, Sophie Soon and Colin Soon, score team’s first medals at Citi Para Swimming World Series 2023 Melbourne

Team Singapore swimmers kicked off their first competition of the opening season, the Citi Para Swimming World Series 2023 Melbourne, with a glorious haul of 2 golds and 1 bronze from Paralympians Yip Pin Xiu and Sophie Soon, as well as ASEAN Para Games 2022 gold medalist, Colin Soon.

The Citi Para Swimming World Series 2023 Melbourne is the first leg of the Series, which will travel to nine countries this year, including Singapore in April 2023. Held at Melbourne Sports Centres, the Melbourne series will last three days from 17 to 19 February.

Yip (S2) took the gold in the Women’s 100m Backstroke multi-class event with a timing of 2:20.98, clocking 733 points. Canadian Aurelie Rivard (S10) took silver with 720 points while Australian Jasmine Greenwood finished third place with 712 points.

The Soon siblings made an impression as well, with the elder Soon (Sophie) taking the gold in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke multi-class event, and her younger brother, Colin, getting a bronze in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke multi-class event.

Team Singapore continues on to Day 2 tomorrow.
