Team Singapore Boccia athletes Toh Sze Ning and Aloysius Gan in the medal hunt for the BC3 pairs event

spexScholar Toh Sze Ning and Aloysius Gan performed well as a duo in the BC3 pairs event at the Tiger Balm Singapore Boccia Open 2018. Partnering for the first time, captain Sze Ning took charge and led the pair to a 4-3 win in the first round against the Thai pairing of Poolket Pongsathorn and Kla-han Ladamanee. In their other match, the duo defeated compatriots Ho Jing Rui and Desmond Lam Wai Ho with a score of 6-2. Their wins put them in a good position to stand on the podium when competition resumes.

The pair and team events for BC1, BC2, BC3 and BC4 will continue and be concluded tomorrow.

World No. 3 Saengampa Worawut led his team in the BC1 Team event with a score of 31-0 against Singapore

Earlier in the day, the individual event was concluded with Thailand sweeping all the Gold and Silver medals.

Organised by the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), the Singapore Boccia Open made its return after a 10-year hiatus, thanks to a S$70,000 sponsorship from Tiger Balm. The 4-day competition will draw to a close tomorrow. Spectators will have a last chance to witness the exciting action from 9.30am to 12pm at the sports hall of Heartbeat@Bedok. Admission is free.

A victory ceremony will be held at Kallang Wave Mall Atrium (next to Cotton On) from 6pm to 6.30pm
