Team Singapore para swimmer Toh Wei Soong, 26, clinched a silver medal at the 2025 Para Swimming World Series Mexico, held from 12 to 15 June, in his final competition before turning his focus to the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships – Singapore 2025.
Building on his momentum from the Japan leg of the World Series in April, Toh delivered an impressive performance and bagged yet another silver medal at this Mexico edition in the Men’s 50m Butterfly Multi-class finals with a time of 30.90s and earning 927 World Para Swimming points. This is an improvement from his previous race in Fuji-Shizuoka where he clocked a time of 31.35s (904 points).
Toh, who competes in the S7 classification, began his campaign with the Men’s 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke Multi-class events on the first and third days of the competition, before taking on a triple-race schedule on the final day. He competed in the 50m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle and capped off the series with his medal-winning 50m Butterfly swim. The gold and bronze medals went to Colombians Nelson Crispin Corzo (S6, 31.13s, 957 points) and Santiago Leon Prada (S6, 33.13s, 858 points), respectively.
Toh’s mother, Ms Stella Hu, said: “He had three events in one day, so we’re very proud that he was still able to medal after the gruelling back-to-back swims.”
With this silver medal, Toh concludes his tune-up ahead of the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships, which Singapore will host for the first time from 21 to 27 September. This historic event will mark the first time the prestigious World Championships are held in Asia.
The World Para Swimming Series uses the Multi-Class Point System where each swimmer’s result is compared to the world record for their specific sport class and awarded points. The closer the performance is to the relevant record, the higher the points.
