Singapore’s top para archer, Nur Syahidah Alim, delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Asia PARA Cup-World Ranking Tournament, securing a silver medal in the Women’s Individual Compound Open event. This marks a strong start to her competitive season following her appearance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The current World No. 5 dominated the qualification round, finishing first out of 12 competitors with an impressive score of 673, earning her a bye in the 1/16 Elimination Round. She continued her stellar form in the knockout rounds, defeating Malaysia’s Abdul Jalil Nur Jannaton (138-132) in the 1/8 round, followed by India’s Jyoti (141-136) in the quarterfinals.

In a highly anticipated gold medal match, Syahidah narrowly missed the top spot, falling to India’s Sarita by a single point (143-142). Sarita, a quarterfinalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, proved a formidable opponent, but Syahidah’s performance reaffirmed her position as one of Asia’s top para archers.

Following a challenging campaign at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Syahidah took a break from competing to reset mentally and physically.

“I had the chance to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with why I started archery in the first place. It wasn’t just about stepping away— it was about rediscovering the fun and joy in shooting without the pressure of competition,” said Syahidah.

Reflecting on her performance, Syahidah added: “I feel happy and grateful for this achievement at my first competition for 2025. It’s also reminded me of the journey I’ve been on and how much I’ve progressed and I am motivated to keep pushing forward.”

This silver medal is a testament to Syahidah’s resilience and dedication, as she continues to sharpen her skills and set her sights on upcoming international tournaments and major games, such as the Beijing 2025 Asia Para Archery Championships, Gwangju 2025 World Archery Para Championships and 2025 ASEAN Para Games held next year.
