Team Singapore came agonizingly close to a gold medal on the final day of competition at the Tiger Balm Singapore Boccia Open 2018. spexScholar Toh Sze Ning and Aloysius Gan narrowly missed out on the top prize in the BC3 pairs category. Having already secured 2 wins yesterday, the duo played their final match today against Koreans Woo Jeongmin and Kim Deubora. Initially down by a score of 0-2, Toh and Gan clawed their way back to seize a 3-2 advantage but eventually lost 3-4.

The defeat enabled Woo and Kim to clinch gold for Korea, while Toh and Gan won silver. Bronze went to another pair of Team Singapore athletes, Gareth Ho and Desmond Lam, who performed well even though this is the first time that they are playing in a regional event.

Despite losing to the Koreans, Toh, who was the captain, was heartened by the day’s proceedings. “This is the first time we played together. We played well together.”

In the other categories, regional boccia powerhouse Thailand muscled their way to the gold medals.
